TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

ACAT’s Teacher Certification Program (TCP), which operated from 1967-2018, was the first and longest running program in the United States. ACAT’s faculty came from various backgrounds and related professions, giving trainees experience with a rich array of approaches.

Alumni work in private practice, at health clinics and studios, and as faculty at prominent institutions, including The Juilliard School, Yale School of Drama, N.Y.U.’s Tisch and Steinhardt Schools, and many more. As a membership organization, ACAT also fosters a vibrant post-graduate community, providing ongoing training, workshops and events.

ACAT’s Teacher Certification Program was an AmSAT certified three-year, 1,600-hour course. Trainees attended class for 16 hours per week, 30 weeks per year.

TODAY: I teach the Alexander Technique in private practice and at the Manhattan JCC for people with Parkinsons.

WHY ALEXANDER? I had taken the Alexander Technique in college and I returned to it when I started to get injured as a scenic painter. For me, the Alexander Technique was wonderfully life changing and I wanted to share it with other people. I switched my career and became an Alexander Technique instructor. Today, my life is about helping people and wellness and I feel much more fulfilled.

TODAY: I teach the Alexander Technique and mindfulness meditation in private practice and retreats. I also teach The Art of Swimming, a creative swim instruction that utilizes the AT to find more ease, efficiency, and balance in the water.

WHY ALEXANDER? I used the Alexander Technique to help recover from a life-changing injury in my mid-20s where I was unable to hold a book, type, and experienced intense, chronic pain. I now teach this work as a method of recovering balance and well-being. In order to heal the body, we don't need to micromanage it nor do we need to constantly strive to be "better." We can develop a sane relationship with our body that includes compassion, less tension, and a graceful posture.

TODAY: I teach the Alexander Technique in private practice in Manhattan and Queens

WHY ALEXANDER? I have always been seeking for a mind-body method to enhance the quality of my piano performance, at the same time working with less stress and injury. Alexander Technique is a practical and logical method which helps to release tension in my body; resulted in a more fluid, less rigidity and freedom in my performance as well as leading a pain free daily lives. I am passionate about guiding students to restore their natural poise and move through life with grace. I am also dedicated to increasing the awareness of the Alexander Technique within the Asian community through translating AT-related articles to Chinese, blogging and teaching.
